Since spring is finally showing its colors, I decided to make a spring inspired wreath! I always look at Pinterest to get some inspiration for craft projects. I usually take the crafts I like and make them look more like mine. Here is the wreath I found on Pinterest made by Sister’s Suitcase. I took their design and added a little bit more to mine to personalize it for our door at home.
Here is what I started with:
1/2 yard of polka dot fabric from JoAnns
1 styrofoam circle from JoAnns (They have different sizes and colors)

I started by cutting the fabric into strips and tightly wrapped it around the wreath. One lesson I learned as I started moving along was that the edges on the fabric fray a little. In order to make sure this doesn’t happen fold under the sides of the fabric for a clean edge.

Here you can see what the edges looked like before I cleaned them up. Make sure to wrap tightly and hot glue the pieces down at the ends of the strips. Continue this until the circle is completely wrapped and you are happy with the way it looks.

Here is what my final wrapping job looked like. I originally was going to use the paint swatches to make my butterflies, but I realized there was words written on the back of the cards.

Instead, I used some colored cardstock that I already had. I used my Cricut cartridge to make the butterfly cutouts. There are also different kinds of punches that you can get at any craft store with designs you can hole punch. I also used the glue gun to attach the butterflies.

The results:

Crafting is definitely about trail and error to get the best result. I originally tried hanging up the wreath with the green ribbon, but I just didn’t think it looked right. After much debate with myself I asked some of my friends if they were seeing what I was seeing. As a result, I decided to change out the ribbon for something less bold.

The yellow ribbon worked perfectly! I was going to stop there, but my husband wanted the wreath more personalized. I also think he missed our old wreath that had our house number on it.

I used some chipboard numbers I had and painted them a pail pink to match the spring theme. I then found a “k” I had and painted it blue with polka dots to match the green fabric. I was really pleased with the way everything turned out.
